Terms of service

Hackademy is run by Mather Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17443861), registered office 31 Mill Fold Gardens, Littleborough, England, OL15 8SA. “We” on this page means Mather Software Ltd. By using Hackademy you agree to these terms. How we handle your personal data is set out in our privacy policy.

The service

Hackademy offers short lessons in AI engineering and AWS certification preparation, with quizzes, mock exams, a review queue, XP, streaks, weekly leagues, achievements and certificates. It is free to use. You can try lessons as a guest; your guest progress stays on your device until you create an account.

We may change, add or remove lessons and features, and we may suspend or stop the service. We aim to keep it available but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Your account

You sign up with an email address or your Google account, through our authentication provider, Clerk. Keep your sign-in details secure; you are responsible for what happens on your account.
Give accurate details, and use one account per person.
You can stop using Hackademy at any time. To delete your account, email conor@mathersoftware.com from the address on it.

Learning content and certificates

Lessons are for education. We work to keep them accurate and current, but they may contain mistakes or fall behind a provider's changes, and they are not professional advice.
Hackademy is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Amazon Web Services or any other certification provider. Our mock exams are practice only: passing one does not guarantee you will pass the real exam.
A Hackademy certificate records that you completed a course or passed a mock exam on Hackademy. It is not a qualification or a certification issued by AWS or anyone else, and you must not present it as one.
XP, streaks, streak freezes, league places and achievements are part of the game. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred, and we may rebalance or reset them.
Our lessons, design and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your own learning, but not copy, resell or republish them, or scrape the service.

What you publish

You can publish courses, write comments, choose a public handle, and upvote, follow and report. You keep ownership of what you publish. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and distribute it on Hackademy for as long as it is there, so that the service can show it to the people you share it with. Study notes and highlights are private to you.

You are responsible for what you publish, and you must not publish anything that:

you do not have the right to share, or that infringes someone else's rights;
is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit or misleading;
contains malware, spam or advertising, or impersonates someone else or Hackademy;
shares someone else's personal data without their consent.

Content written with an AI model is still yours to check: you are responsible for it as if you wrote it yourself.

Reports and moderation

Anyone signed in can report a course or comment. Reported content may be hidden automatically while we review it. We may remove any content, or block a course, that we believe breaks these terms, and we will tell you why when we block a course of yours. We may suspend or close an account that repeatedly or seriously breaks them. If you think we got a decision wrong, email conor@mathersoftware.com.

Acceptable use

Do not interfere with the service or other learners: no attempts to break its security, overload it, automate answers or XP, manipulate leagues or upvotes, or access another person's account.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Hackademy is provided free of charge and “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, profit or opportunity, or for exam results. If you use Hackademy as a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes, and will change the date at the top when we do. Continuing to use Hackademy after a change means you accept the new terms.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. Questions about these terms go to conor@mathersoftware.com.
