Out of memory

Someone tightened the orders pods' memory to save money. Now they won't stay up.

A memory limit is a hard ceiling: go over it and the kernel kills the process — OOMKilled, exit code 137. A request is what the scheduler reserves for the pod. Set the limit from what the app really uses, with room to spare.

Objectives

  • Find out what is killing the pods
  • 2 orders pods ready and staying up, with a memory limit they fit in
  • Bonus: See real usage with kubectl top pods

Best on a computer with a keyboard. It works on a phone, with shortcuts under the terminal.
